Evangelista “Cyborg” Santos suffered a horrifying injury in his loss to Michael Page Saturday at Bellator 158, as the flying knee he was hit by fractured his skull.

Santos’ ex-wife, Cris “Cyborg” Justino, posted an image of Santos with his skull x-ray, and gave an update on his current condition.

“Fight fans Please say a prayer for me ex husband Cyborg Santos,” Justino wrote. “Many of you watched him fight on Spike TV this weekend when he suffered this injury while fighting in London. Cyborg is still in the hospital in the UK, and they are not sure when he will be able to fly again. He has not had surgery yet and [there] is worry the brain can continue to swell causing more damage. Bellator MMA is [supposed] to be responsible for all medical procedures needed to fix this injury from the fight, however Cyborg is going to be unable to work for sometime and we will be putting together a #gofundme for fight fans wishing To sponsor him And his Family at this [difficult] time. Thank you God for your [protection], The [doctor] said this very easily could have been life threatening. Please show your support for the fighters and share!

Penick’s Analysis: That’s a hard image to look at. It’s a sobering reminder of what’s on the other end of some of those vicious KOs, and that knee from Page was as brutal as it gets. Hopefully Santos doesn’t wind up with permanent damage here and is able to recover from this. That’s as bad a head injury as you’re ever going to see in this sport.
