Mark Hunt says Brock Lesnar fight at UFC 200 “just makes my name even bigger”

By Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

Mark Hunt wants to fight top end competitors in the UFC’s heavyweight division to get him back into the title picture, but his UFC 200 bout with Brock Lesnar doesn’t fit that goal. Instead, Hunt knows that the Lesnar fight is all about his profile.

“I don’t think it’ll get me any further or closer to a title shot; it just makes my name even bigger,” Hunt said of the fight in an interview with AXS TV’s Inside MMA program (via MMAJunkie.com). “I think if I beat Brock – he’s not even in the top 10, to be honest.”

Hunt said he’s looking for opponents ranked ahead of him after his fight with Lesnar on July 9, but he’s got immediate plans for after the bout.

“Well, after this fight, I’m going to go to Disneyland and take the kids,” Hunt said. “So if anyone out there knows a hookup, hook us up. Disneyland, baby. It’s going to be good.

“We’ll see what happens after that. Probably try to get a top-five guy and then move on from there.”

Penick’s Analysis: If Hunt beats Lesnar it will absolutely make him more well known to a wider audience, and still helps his run for another title fight because of that fact. Higher profile with another win or so moves him right into contention. He’s capable of getting there, and has the highlight reel to support it, but high profile fights are always a quicker path.
