With the UFC debut of CM Punk officially coming at UFC 203 against Mickey Gall, oddsmakers have released opening lines for the fight.
In a perhaps shocking line, Punk comes in as only a +265 underdog to Gall, a -300 favorite, in Bovada.lv‘s starting lines.
Those are sure to fluctuate from now until the Sept. 10 bout in Cleveland, but if anyone’s confident in either fighter the lines give something worthwhile to play. With Punk having no former fight experience and not being expected to do much, lines might move heavily towards Gall at the line, as it’s sure to push him even further into favorite territory.
Penick’s Analysis: If anyone has confidence in Punk coming into the cage in winning, they’re going to wind up getting a significant return on their bet should he win. That’s unlikely, which is why he’s an underdog, and will likely be an even bigger underdog by the time the fight happens. Of course, for those expecting Gall to win, that’s as cheap a price as they’re going to get on him over the next few months.
