Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold continue verbal sparring after UFC 199, separated after press conference

By Jamie Penick, MMATorch Editor-in-Chief

The feud between Michael Bisping and Luke Rockhold is only set to grow after UFC 199’s shocking upset, and it continued in several heated exchanges at the post-fight press conference, leading to both fighters needing to be separated after the proceedings.

Things came to a head when Bisping addressed his loss to Rockhold and their post-fight exchange, which Rockhold remembered differently and brought both to the following:

Bisping: “Luke, c’mon buddy. When the shoe was on the other foot, I leaned over and thanked you at this moment in time. I said, ‘Well done.'”

Rockhold: “Yeah, and I actually picked you up off the canvas. And you being the dick you are, came up to me and was a bitch about it.”

Bisping: “I shook your hand. And you said, ‘I already shook your hand, and you told me to f*** off, basically.”

Rockhold: “You asked me, ‘Do you know where you are, do you know where you are?’ You’re a f***ing dick.”

Bisping (raising title): “Hey buddy, you got knocked out. Sit down and shut up. What an asshole, guys.”

Rockhold: “I will come back and kill you.”

We then got this exchange after the press conference:

Penick’s Analysis: Even when Bisping gets an upper hand, when he puts himself in a position to be universally celebrated, he can’t help but slip up. He’s really still using that gay slur in 2016? Seriously? It’s not entirely unexpected from him – it’s far from the first time he’s used it – but come on now. Only tarnishes what was a feel-good story on Saturday night. Beyond that, there’s plenty built in to make a rubber match, but there are a number of reasons to go a different direction as well, and if Rockhold doesn’t get the next shot he won’t have any ground to complain.
