The Bellator 154 on May 14 in San Jose has lost one of its hometown competitors, as FloCombat.com reports that Josh Thomson has suffered an injury, taking him out of a lightweight matchup with Michael Chandler.

Bellator is currently seeking a replacement to meet Chandler on the card, which takes place from the SAP Center in San Jose, Calif., on Spike.

Thomson, the former Strikeforce Lightweight Champion and UFC veteran, made his Bellator debut in September of last year after a three fight losing streak in the Octagon. He’s scored two stoppage victories in the Bellator cage, submitting Mike Bronzoulis and stopping Pablo Villaseca by TKO.

Chandler, Bellator’s former Lightweight Champion, has won two straight fights into this event after a three fight losing streak of his own. The May 14 card is slated to go head to head with the UFC 198 pay-per-view event from Brazil, and will be headlined by the light heavyweight bout between Phil Davis and Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal.

Penick’s Analysis: Bellator’s going to have an issue with this card a bit without a suitable replacement. They’re down to two of their originally scheduled main card fights, and with an extremely strong UFC pay-per-view event that night they could take a further hit in viewership with a less compelling card overall.
