Another Freire brother has gotten a short notice opponent change for this month, as Bellator revealed on Monday that Patricky will now face UFC vet Kevin Souza this weekend in Turin, Italy, at Bellator 152.
Patricky was slated to meet Derek Campos in a rematch of a 2014 bout, but Campos has been forced out due to injury. Patricky’s younger brother Patricio just received a new opponent this week in Henry Corrales for next week’s Bellator 153 card.
The elder “Pitbull” will now try to follow up on his knockout over Ryan Couture against Souza, who makes his first appearance in Bellator after a 3-1 run in the UFC. His release was surprising in December, especially given he’d scored two straight stoppage wins prior to his sole loss to Chas Skelly in November.
Bellator 152 is the MMA promotion of their dual MMA/kickboxing debut in Turin, and the Freire-Souza bout will headline the card on Spike. The kickboxing portion of the event will be aired on tape delay the following week on Spike.
