UFC 196 Bonuses: Nate Diaz scores double bonus in stunning main event win over Conor McGregor

Nate Diaz’s already career-high payday got a little bit higher on Saturday night, as his main event win over Conor McGregor at UFC 196 earned him a double bonus to the tune of $100,000.

Diaz and McGregor each received an extra $50,000 for the “Fight of the Night,” while Diaz pocketed another $50K for “Performance of the Night” due to his second round submission. The insanely active fight saw McGregor batter up Diaz’s face for most of the opening round and early on in the second, but the Irishman seemed to tire out, and Diaz’s notoriously strong chin allowed him to fight through. He hurt McGregor midway through the round, and in a desperate move McGregor shot in for a takedown; it was academic from there, as Diaz got to mount, took McGregor’s back, and forced him to tap to a rear naked choke.

The final “Performance of the Night” bonus went to the other major upset on the night, as Miesha Tate earned her bonus along with the UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship. Tate was losing the fight to Holly Holm 38-37 on all scorecards into the final round after a dominant 10-8 scoring second, and late in the final frame attacked for a rear naked choke. Holm tried to shake her off, Tate blocked that, had it cinched in tight, and Holm went to sleep before she could tap.
