UFC Fight Night 82 Medical Suspensions: Stephen Thompson among seven fighters out up to six months [UPDATED]

Ankle injuries hit several fighters out of the UFC Fight Night 82 event in Las Vegas last weekend, with three fighters out up to six months because of them. Seven fighters in total were handed six month medical suspensions pending doctor’s clearance, with headliner Stephen “Wonderboy” Thompson, Jared Rosholt, Ovince St. Preux, Rafael Cavalcante, Josh Burkman, and Diego Rivas, and Alex Nicholson all out potentially until August.

No other fighter is out longer than three months out of the event, though 16 fighters in total received medical suspensions. The Nevada Athletic Commission emailed the list of suspensions to MMATorch on Monday, with the full list below:

  • Stephen Thompson: suspended until Aug. 7 pending x-ray of right ankle, clearance by orthopedic doctor; minimum suspension until March 8, no contact until Feb. 28
  • Jared Rosholt: suspended until Aug. 7 pending x-ray of left ankle, clearance by orthopedic doctor; minimum suspension until March 8, no contact until Feb. 28
  • Ovince St. Preux: suspended until Aug. 7 pending x-ray of right ankle, clearance by orthopedic doctor; minimum suspension until March 8, no contact until Feb. 28
  • Rafael Cavalcante: suspended until Aug. 7 pending clearance of right eye by ophthalmologist; minimum suspension until March 8, no contact until Feb. 28
  • Josh Burkman: suspended until Aug. 7 pending MRI on right shoulder and clearance by orthopedic doctor; minimum suspension until Feb. 28 with no contact until Feb. 21
  • Diego Rivas: suspended until Aug. 7 pending clearance by orthopedic doctor for both knees
  • Noad Lahat: suspended until April 7, no contact until March 23
  • Joseph Benavidez: suspended until March 23, no contact until March 8 due to left eyebrow laceration
  • Alex Nicholson: suspended until Aug 7. pending clearance on jaw fractures and broken nose by oral maxillofacial doctor; minimum suspension until March 23, no contact until March 8 due to left eyelid laceration
  • Sean Spencer: suspended until March 23, no contact until March 8
  • K.J. Noons: suspended until March 23, no contact until March 8 due to laceration on left fifth finger
  • Damian Grabowski: suspended until March 23, no contact until March 8 for laceration on scalp
  • Johny Hendricks: suspended until March 8, no contact until Feb. 28
  • Roy Nelson: suspended until March 8, no contact until Feb. 28
  • Ray Borg: suspended until March 8, no contact until Feb. 28 due to tough fight
  • Artem Lobov: suspended until March 8, no contact until Feb. 28 due to left upper eyelid laceration
