Justin Gaethje vs. Brian Foster Lightweight Title bout reportedly set for WSOF 29 on March 12

A World Series of Fighting Lightweight Title fight between Justin Gaethje and Brian Foster is coming to WSOF 29 this March, according to a report from MMAFighting.com.

Gaethje, 27, is a perfect 15-0 in his MMA career, stopping 13 of those opponents in a four and a half year run. 12 of those wins came by (T)KO, including all three of his title defenses to date, two of those against Luis Palomino in his last two fights.

He’ll now take on UFC vet Foster, who has had an absolute roller coaster to this point in his career. The 31-year-old Foster was inconsistent but entertaining and competitive through five fights in the UFC in 2009 and 2010, winning three of those and even submitting current top ten fighter Matt Brown in his final appearance. A misinterpreted brain scan kept him out of competition for nearly a year and cost him a spot on the roster, and it’s been an up and down road in several organizations since then.

Foster entered the WSOF one year ago this Sunday, getting submitted by top ten welterweight Jake Shields. He dropped to lightweight after that bout, knocked out LaRue Burley, and then entered Bellator’s one-night only lightweight tournament in November.

After a heel hook loss to Joao Zeferino in the quarterfinals, Foster was given new life when other competitors were forced out due to injury, and he took full advantage by stopping the aforementioned Palomino before exacting vengeance on Zeferino with a second round TKO in the finals.

WSOF 29 is expected to air live on NBCSN from Loveland, Colo., on March 12.
