Final UFC on Fox 17 ratings in at 2.78 million viewers, in line with previous December shows

Final numbers are in for Saturday’s UFC on Fox 17 event, as Dave Meltzer at MMAFighting.com reports that an average of 2.781 million tuned in for the Rafael dos Anjos vs. Donald Cerrone headlined event from Orlando.

That figure is exactly in line with the past two years of Fox events in December, as well as with what they’ve drawn thus far in 2015. 2014’s UFC on Fox 13 event drew 2.8 million viewers for the Junior dos Santos vs. Stipe Miocic event, while UFC on Fox 9, headlined by a rematch between Demetrious “Mighty Mouse” Johnson and Joseph Benavidez, drew that number as well.

It’s just below the UFC’s average for the year on Fox, though it drew higher, slightly, than both UFC on Fox 16 in July and UFC on Fox 15 in April. The July show, headlined by T.J. Dillashaw’s second victory over Renan Barao, drew 2.756 million, while the Luke Rockhold vs. Lyoto Machida event in April drew 2.745 million.

Penick’s Analysis: It seems the UFC’s audience pool for these Fox cards is what it is, and has stayed steady for quite some time. They’ll get the occasional spike, but they’re drawing those who have typically shown to be inclined to tune in already for these shows. That they still got that audience with a rare Saturday night NFL game and the biggest opening weekend for a movie ever in the new Star Wars film is a solid consolation to ratings not rising any further.
