UFC 194
DECEMBER 12, 2015
LIVE FROM LAS VEGAS, NEVADA

The wait is finally over! One of the best cards in UFC history is upon us tonight, and the Featherweight Championship bout between Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor will finally happen. We’ll have live round by round coverage of tonight’s televised fights, beginning with the Fox Sports 1 prelims at 8PM ET; we’ll also have quick results and commentary on the UFC Fight Pass prelims, so make sure to stick with us all night to follow along with the best fight card of 2015!

=====UFC Fight Pass Quick Results=====

-Court McGee def. Marcio Alexandre via unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28)

NOTE: Workmanlike performance from McGee, though the first two rounds could have easily gone to Alexandre. Still, given the layoff he had coming into the event, it wasn’t a bad showing from McGee.

-Yancy Medeiros def. John Makdessi via split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)

NOTE: Fight never got out of first gear. Very little happened for the first two and a half rounds; some strikes exchanged, neither doing a ton effectively. Medeiros had a knockdown in the final seconds of the fight, and it may have ultimately been the difference. Neither really did much of anything so it was really a coin flip.

-Magomed Mustafaev def. Joe Proctor via TKO at 1:54 of the first round

NOTE: Mustafaev hurt Proctor fairly early with a body kick and backed him up to the cage. Proctor tried to cover up, but ate a bunch of knees, intentionally dropped to the ground, and kept his hands over his head to force the stoppage.

Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Torres. She finally poured on some offense there. Wasn’t much of a fight for most of it, but nice striking work from Torres in that third round.

WINNER: Torres via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 30-27)

STAR RATING: (*+) Not a ton to that fight. Torres had some nice offense late but there was a lot of slow clinch work in the fight.

WINNER: Holloway via unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)

STAR RATING: (*+) Not a great fight. Step back from Holloway, unfortunately. He took the mic from Joe Rogan after and called for a title fight with McGregor in Croke Park or Aldo in his home of Hawaii, but there is no chance in hell he’s leap-frogging Frankie Edgar.

STAR RATING: (***) That was just technical brilliance from Demian Maia, and a wonderfully dominant performance against a really tough guy in Nelson. Maia deserves consideration in a No. 1 contender fight. Let’s get Maia against Johny Hendricks to fight for a title shot after Tyron Woodley.

ROUND ONE: Romero circled on the outside early as Souza looked to move forward. Romero landed a hard kick to the body that was blocked. Souza landed a straight right and tried to get to Romero. Souza patiently looked for an opening, but Romero defended. Romero finally escaped to his feet and they clinched to the horn.

Penick’s Scorecard: 10-9 Jacare. Clearly his round, and I think he won this fight in a come from behind after surviving that bad first round. Could have been a 10-8 in the first round, so we could have a draw here, but I think two and three were Souza’s.

WINNER: Romero via split decision (29-27, 28-29, 29-28)

STAR RATING: (**) Odd fight in some ways. Heartbreaking for Jacare. He didn’t convincingly “win” given what happened in that first round, but should have been a draw at worst, because Romero did next to nothing in the second round. I don’t see Romero having much chance against Weidman or Rockhold outside of a similar out-of-nowhere first round shot. In a five round fight, both of those men may beat him badly given that type of performance.

He was getting battered with elbow after elbow, punch after punch. He was covering his face and Herb Dean let him make it to the round. Fucking awful by Herb Dean. That fight should have stopped 20 seconds ago. Are you freaking kidding me. Herb Dean has been absolutely horrible tonight.

Penick’s Scorecard: 10-8 Rockhold. How is that not stopped? Unbelievably horrible work from Dean. Just criminal and inexcusable.

That last two minutes was unnecessary. Fantastic performance from Luke Rockhold.

WINNER: Rockhold via TKO at 3:12 of the fourth round

STAR RATING: (***) Just a fantastic performance from Rockhold. Truly. He had a rough first half in the third after a strong second round, but once he got Weidman down he beat the ever-loving crap out of him. Weidman gave up position on that in retrospect really bad wheel kick, and Rockhold just destroyed him. Rockhold, who entered the UFC as the Strikeforce Middleweight Champion, is now officially the best middleweight in the world.

MAIN EVENT FIGHT FIVE: JOSE ALDO VS. CONOR MCGREGOR (FEATHERWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP)

-They have excellent new in-arena graphics for the big fight walkout, and both got loud reactions from the crowd.

ROUND ONE: McGregor landed an early jab and a side kick. Aldo ran into him and McGregor knocked him out! He knocked him out cold! What in the hell just happened?!?!?! Left hook landed. Aldo went out. McGregor landed an extra hammer fist. This is done. Are you kidding me? Insanity.

WINNER: McGregor via KO at :13 of the first round

STAR RATING: (****) Unbelievable. Absolutely unbelievable. This is Conor McGregor’s world, and we’re just living in it. That was craziness.

McGregor: “Precision beats power, and timing beats speed, and that’s what you saw there.”

-Aldo said he wanted a rematch because they never got going there, and the crowd booed him. That’s expected from the Irish crowd, but garbage. He hadn’t lost in ten years, he can get a rematch after a quick KO like that.

-That was an unbelievable night. The top two fights delivered some shocking moments, and we end this three fight stretch on one of the craziest moments in UFC history. Thanks for following along with us here tonight! We’ll have so much more to say about this throughout the week, and we have even more fights coming seven days from now as the UFC’s wholly memorable 2015 schedule comes to an end with UFC on Fox 17!
