UFC Champ Joanna Jedrzejczyk doesn’t think Claudia Gadelha should get next title shot

Claudia Gadelha is under the impression that she’ll be fighting Joanna Jedrzejczyk next if and when the UFC Strawweight Champion defends her title on Saturday against Valerie Letourneau.

However, Jedrzejczyk herself said this week that she thinks perhaps Gadelha should be further down the ladder.

“She’s talking so much on her social media. She should realize that she lost the fight with me and she should just stand in the line and wait for her chance to fight with me,” Jedrzejczyk said during the UFC 193 media day this week (via Submission Radio). “‘Cause the line is long, so she should just think about other fights before she gonna fight me.

“I think there are other fighters who deserve it more. Like I said, she has just one win after she lost to me. So she should just wait and get other fight.”

Penick’s Analysis: Here’s a spot where I’ll have to disagree with Joanna Champion. Her first fight with Gadelha was too good and too close to not get resolution in a five round fight for the title. Sure, Gadelha’s only gotten one more win, but she had a very real argument for taking that first fight, thus the split to that decision. Gadelha absolutely deserves that shot as much or more than the rest of the division, so whether Jedrzejczyk likes it or not, Gadelha’s coming up next.
